Join Our Board of Directors

Handmade Arcade (HA) seeks community leaders who are passionate about empowering makers and creative entrepreneurs in the Pittsburgh region to serve as members of Handmade Arcade’s Board of Directors. 

About Handmade Arcade’s Board of Directors: 

HA became a 501(c)(3) in 2017. The organization is managed by one full-time staff member, the Executive Director. The organization’s growth since 2017 is in large part due to the contributions of a small but active working board. Board members provide governance and oversight for the organization, support the implementation of the organization’s strategic plan, and actively contribute to the organization through committee participation. Board meetings are held from 6:30-8:00 PM on the third Thursday of every other month.

Position Description: 

Handmade Arcade Board Members:

  • Serve for a term of three years with the option to opt-in for a second term

  • Attend at least 75% of board and committee meetings and attend at least one event annually

  • Take the lead on an initiative at least once annually 

  • Make an annual personal financial contribution at a level that is meaningful to them

  • Actively participate in one or more organizational fundraising activities annually

  • Attend Handmade Arcade special events and programs 

  • Oversee and contribute to implementing HA’s strategic plan 

  • Participate in the annual review of HA’s Executive Director

  • Participate in an annual self-assessment of HA’s Board of Directors

Qualifications: 

In order to maintain a well-rounded board, Handmade Arcade seeks board members with expertise in any of the following areas: 

  • Accounting and/or finance (especially nonprofit)

  • Law

  • Fundraising

  • Nonprofit management

  • Human Resources
